Blue Hour Over the James River Series #1- Civil Twilight 6:04 PM
The first of a painting series featuring a scene of the James River during the intervals of blue hour after the sunset. This painting depicts the river scene during the beginning of the blue hour at civil twilight. The sun has just started to set below the horizon, which I depicted by applying the striking values of the sky across the water’s surface. I used a palette knife to paint the ripple texture which remains consistent in the first few paintings of this series where light is clearly defined within the water texture.
